New Associate Director for the Office of Research & Creative Activities (ORCA)

Brigham Young University announced Debbie Silversmith as the new Associate Director of the Office of Research & Creative Activities (ORCA) effective October 1, 2017.

“Silversmith is very service oriented, competent, experienced and hard working.” said ORCA Director, Gene R. Larson. “She has been assisting the College of Engineering with a complex set of challenges and opportunities over the past several years and is poised to make significant contributions to BYU as a whole through her service in this new role.”

Silversmith earned a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Brigham Young University in 1998 and an M.P.A. from BYU in 2009. She is a Certified Research Administrator (CRA).

Silversmith joined BYU in 1999 after completing her bachelor’s degree. Prior to joining ORCA in 2011, she served as the Office Manager in the BYU Office of Public Archaeology. Silversmith has served in the role of Research Administrator for the past 6 years.

In Silversmith’s tenure as Research Administrator, she served as administrator of the university Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) in addition to recently managing the ORCA and MEG mentoring programs.
